Driving in Marrakech and the Atlas
Driving in Marrakech is pleasant in the new town (Guéliz, Hivernage) with its wide avenues. Avoid driving inside the medina, where the lanes are narrow. Guarded car parks are available at the gates of the medina (Djemaa el-Fna square, Bab Doukkala) for 20-30 MAD.
For excursions into the Atlas, the Tizi n'Tichka road (towards Ouarzazate) is spectacular and well paved. The road to Essaouira (2h30) runs alongside argan plantations. The motorway links Marrakech to Casablanca in 2h30 and to Agadir in 3h. An SUV is recommended for mountain tracks and the Dadès Valley.
